Amapiano musician Rotshidzwa Maake, known by her stage name Ceendy, recently released a new EP titled My Journey.
Reflecting on her musical path, she shared that she grew up listening to various styles of house music. "I started singing when I was still young, inspired by local artists like Mizo Phyll. My music is diverse, catering to different tastes among my fans," she said.
Explaining the choice of My Journey as the title, Ceendy said, "This gives it an advantage of being played on various radio stations. The message behind the song is that love conquers all. If people love each other, there won't be war or senseless killings, like what we see happening around us today, where innocent victims are shot dead by those with no respect for life. It's a song that promotes peace, love, and unity—perfect for celebrations, functions, or any kind of event."
According to Ceendy, her music is relatable to everyone. "My music focuses on teaching the nation to stay positive," she said. She often gets asked why she has chosen to stick to the amapiano genre, to which she responds, "For me, it's more important to convey meaningful messages than to simply produce dance music. I strongly believe that amapiano is the mother of all music genres. I stick to the roots, not the leaves."
She explained that her amapiano single tells the story of the challenges she has faced and how she has overcome them. She added that, despite not being extensively marketed yet, the song was already performing well.
"Being from Limpopo comes with its own challenges as many people still don't believe that local artists can be great musicians. I suppose it's because most successful artists come from Gauteng and other provinces. So, being a local artist can be tough because people don't always take you seriously," she said.
