Well-known traditional leader and healer Ndhuna James Mgabini (78) was laid to rest on Saturday at Chavani village. He died at his home in Ha-Ravele on 7 August after a long illness.
Family spokesperson Mlunghisi Mgabini said they honoured his wishes. "We had to send him off in a dignified funeral to show how much we appreciated him as a family. We believe his soul is at peace," he said.
Mgabini described his death as a shock. "He was such an experienced traditional leader, and we expected him to assist in training the new leader," he said.
Adv Vhutshilo Phuravhathu called him a fallen hero full of vision, praising his generosity, kindness and leadership. "The community and young people have lost a role model and adviser. Let us not mourn but celebrate the legacy he has left behind," Phuravhathu said.
Hosi Thomas Mukhari described his death as a blow to development. "It is a shame to see hardworking people, committed to their communities, die. The traditional council has lost a partner in community development. We will continue working hard in his honour," he said.
