A new traditional leader was installed at Manyii village at the Makwarela royal palace a fortnight ago.

The Manyii community spent almost six years without a traditional leader and the new chief's installation was a cause for great celebration.

The new chief, Mulugisi Makwarela (64), is a teacher by profession and he will be continuing with his teaching career. The ceremony was attended by local businesspeople, several high-profile people, including the chiefs from the surrounding areas, such as Chief Philemon Matsa, an actor from SABC 2 soapie Muvhango, Gabriel Temudzani, and an award-winning scriptwriter, Phathutshedzo Makwarela, who is the son of the new chief.

Mr Maluta Makwarela was installed as the chief's aid and Ms Sarah Makwarela as his female aid. Khotsimunene Vho-Japan Mphephu Ramabulana conducted the installation. He said that the dark cloud of uncertainty that had been hanging over the Makwarela community would now be a thing of the past. He encouraged the residents to have faith in their new chief. "A community without a leader will never be successful. I urge all of you to support the new chief," he added.

In an interview with Limpopo Mirror, Chief Mulugisi Makwarela indicated that he was eager to work with the community members of Manyii. He also added that the community had to expect beautiful things that he was planning to bring to the community, such as water, a tarred road and the renovation of schools.
