CJ Joy, better known as "Input Pictures" Mabudi, is making a name for himself behind the lens — and his journey has been nothing short of inspiring.

The 24-year-old from Ngudza started exploring photography in 2017 after his mother bought a camera that came with an unexpected bonus: a high-quality lens. His casual interest quickly developed into a passion as he began capturing people and scenery for fun.

"For me, a good photographer notices things that others overlook," he explained. "Most of my photos are of ordinary subjects but taken in an extraordinary way — whether through lighting, angles, contrast, background, or focal length. Learning something new every day helps my photography skills grow."

Photography, Input says, is more than just a hobby. "I find it hard to express myself in words, so photography has become my way of expressing my feelings."

Despite having no formal training, Input has honed his craft through practise, experimentation, and studying the work of local photographers such as Mazilitha and Vino Snap.

He now covers soccer matches, weddings, parties, and various other events. "It's always a good feeling when experienced photographers are impressed with my work. I don't consider myself the best — I still have a lot to learn — but I'm committed to improving my skills and delivering quality work," he said.

In an interview with Limpopo Mirror, the young photographer emphasised the importance of seizing the moment. "If you hesitate to capture a moment, you might lose it forever. I always make sure I don't miss a shot. There's nothing more disappointing than missing an important picture that holds meaning for a client or yourself."
