After shutting down the school for three months while demanding proper classrooms, the pupils of Khogonyane Primary resumed their classes last Monday. The turnabout came after the Department of Education had delivered 10 mobile classes at the school last week.
The schooling calendar was disrupted as the pupils had also abandoned writing their mid-year examinations.
The chairperson of the school governing body, Mr Tshimangadzo Kutama, said the community of Tshikwarani was happy with MEC Dickson Masemola's temporary solution of providing mobile classes. He said it was a pity that Masemola had provided mobile classrooms after the school calendar had been disturbed by the protests.
"We are going to support the teachers with extra classes, so that our children will catch up the time lost. Our kids can't learn in mobile classes forever. I hope that they will start to build permanent classrooms before the end of the year," he said.
One of the parents, Ms Josphine Matotoka, said she was happy that the MEC had listened to the community at last and come up with a temporary solution.
