Residents of Ngwenani ya Hamapholi village are reeling in shock from the brutal murder of well-known bricklayer Rodney Netshishivhe. Described as a jolly and humble man, Netshishivhe was found dead in the early hours of Monday morning, his body covered in blood and soaked in rainwater just a short distance from his home.

The 33-year-old, who had recently celebrated the birth of his child, was reportedly stabbed multiple times with what is believed to be a sharp knife. His body was identified by his sister, Muano Marcia Netshishivhe.

News of his murder has left the community devastated as he was not known to have enemies. While the circumstances surrounding the attack remain unclear, it is suspected that he may have been followed home from a local liquor outlet by unknown assailants.

Community leader Vhakoma Vho Mashudu Ratombo said Netshishivhe's death had left residents shaken and fearful. "We knew him as a peace-loving person who was respected in the village. He was a skilled builder who made a living through piece jobs. His death is a blow to his family and the entire community," said Ratombo.

He added that crime in the village was escalating, with several violent incidents reported in recent weeks. "A few weeks ago, another man was attacked but survived. A month ago, a Zimbabwean national was assaulted with a spade. What worries us most is that these crimes often occur after people have consumed liquor," he said.

The community is now considering ways to tackle crime, including strengthening the local community policing forum (CPF). "We are planning a mass meeting where everyone can contribute ideas. The fight against crime should not rest on our leader, Khosi Vho Manukha Mapholi, alone. It is a community issue, and we must work together to bring an end to this violence," Ratombo said.

Vhembe SAPS spokesperson W/O Vuledzani Dathi confirmed that the police are investigating the murder, but no arrests have been made.

"We are actively searching for the suspect. Anyone with information that could assist in the investigation is urged to contact Det-Sgt Mpho Gethe on 079 380 1132," Dathi said.
