The local Indian community, along with the broader Vhembe community, learnt with sadness of the passing of Hashila Hutherham last week. She died on Tuesday, 3 June, at the age of 50.
Many residents will remember her from her years at Absa Bank, and more recently through her work at Ayob Motors.
The following message, In Loving Memory of Hashila, was shared by Hussain Ayob and the Ayob Motors team:
"It is with deep sorrow that we, at Ayob Motors, mourn the passing of our dear colleague and friend, Hashila.
Hashila was a cherished member of our team – respected, kind-hearted and dedicated. Her warm spirit, professionalism and genuine care for others left a lasting impact on everyone she worked with.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends and loved ones during this time of profound loss. Her memory will forever remain in our hearts.
May her soul rest in eternal peace. With deepest sympathy."
Hashila was born on 24 August 1974 in Dundee, a town in KwaZulu-Natal, where she spent her early years and completed her primary education. Her family later moved to Palm Ridge in Gauteng, where she finished high school.
"Hashila's career journey reflects her versatility and expertise in finance and banking," her family shared. "After completing her education, she began her professional path at Absa Bank – then known as Volkskas Bank – where she gained valuable experience in the banking sector.
"In 2011, she transitioned to the Motor Finance Corporation (MFC), focusing on finance and insurance, which broadened her skills in those areas. Most recently, she worked at Ayob Motors, where she further expanded her experience in the automotive industry. This progression reflects her adaptability and commitment to professional growth."
The family also described Hashila as a compassionate and devoted individual. "We will remember her commitment to her faith and her desire to serve others – truly admirable qualities. Her caring nature and dedicated efforts had a profoundly positive impact on those around her."
Hashila is survived by her son, Raaz Hutherham, her mother and her sisters.
