Comrades winner first in Mountain Race

2012 Comrades Marathon winner, Ludwick Mamabolo, won the Werda Mountain half-marathon at Makhado (Louis Trichardt) on Saturday.

Although a cloud of controversy still surrounds the 2012 Comrades Marathon winner, Ludwick Mamabolo, he won the Werda Mountain half-marathon at Makhado (Louis Trichardt) on Saturday.

After the Comrades, it was discovered that Mamabolo had used a banned substance.

Mamabolo won the half-marathon in 1:19:20 and was followed by Rufus Photo of Polokwane in 1:19:23 and a local athlete, Takalani Nkhumeli, in 1:20:17.

The ladies race was won by well-known veteran Jane Mudau of the Nedbank Athletics Club. She was followed by Joyce Netshifhefhe and Melanie Jennett.

Bethuel Netshifhefhe was the winner of the race for veterans, while Thompson Mbombi of Greater Elim Athletics was the first master home and Phineus Davhana of the SAPS won the grandmaster category.

Fhatuwani Mudzanani of the Limpopo Athletics Club won the 10km for men, followed by Livhuwani Netshaulu of the Vhembe Athletics Club and Pfarelo Mathada in third place. The first veteran home was M Muthupei, while J Mashamba won the masters category and P Geldenhuys won the 10km race for grandmasters.

The ladies 10km was won by P Mulaudzi in 49:11, with D Ratshili second and M Madi third. Amanda Kruger won the masters race, while Denga Mashaba won the race for walkers.
