Const Dovhani Bokwe, a member of the Tshilwavhusiku SAPS, was laid to rest at Mbaleni cemetery last Saturday.
Bokwe (33) was allegedly shot and killed by a suspect, Maano Mutandari (24), at Ramantsha village in the Sinthumule area last week.
According to a report, Mutandari was escorted to several places in the area, where he pointed out scenes of the crimes he had committed. It was further indicated that while travelling, Mutandari grabbed Bokwe's pistol and shot him to death. During the incident, the vehicle overturend and the two other policed officers in the vehicle, Capt Shumani Raphulu and Const S Nthangeni, were severely injured and are fighting for their lives in the
Bokwe, who joined the SAPS in 2004, started working at MW Makhubele Police Station and was later transferred to the Tshilwavhusiku Police Station during the following year.
The station commissioner of the Tshilwavhusiku police, Supt Freddy Shirinda, said they lost a loyal, committed and dedicated policeman. "Bokwe has left a gap which will be very difficult for us to fill," he said.
Shirinda further sent the sincere condolences to the bereaved family. "The family must look to God, who will give them strength at all times," said Shirinda.
It was also reported that the suspect, Maano Mutandari, who was linked to several murder cases, including killing another police officer who was attached to the Banderlierkop SAPS, shot and killed himself at Madabani village while the police were hunting for him all over the area.
