Covid cases on the rise again

After almost three months of relative stability as far as Covid-19 cases are concerned, the pandemic flared up again the past week.

On Monday, the Vhembe region went past the 300 mark again as far as active cases are concerned. The "leading" district was Thulamela, with 190 active cases. Makhado followed with 77 cases, whereas Musina reported 15 cases and Collins Chabane 20.

The figures are still some way from where they peaked in mid-July this year, when 2 171 official active cases were reported in Vhembe. On 14 July, Makhado had almost 1 000 active Covid-19 cases.

The total number of people in Vhembe who tested positive for the virus at one stage or another stood at 21 810 on Tuesday, 7 December. The Thulamela District went past Makhado with the most cases reported, namely 8 458. In Makhado, 8 413 cases have been reported, while Musina recorded 2 188 and Collins Chabane recorded 2 751 cases.

The total death toll stood at 858 this week. Most of the fatalities were in Makhado (414), with Thulamela (292) not too far behind. In Musina, the official death toll stood at 36 and in Collins Chabane the tally was 116.
