The gospel music fraternity nationwide, and particularly in Vhembe, is still reeling from the passing away of one of its finest stars, Palesa Ravele.
Better known as De Real Palesa on musical platforms, the 31-year-old musician from Itsani Tshisahulu passed away on Sunday, 7 September, after battling an unspecified illness that saw him in and out of hospital for some time.
News of his death began circulating on Monday morning, 8 September, and social media were soon abuzz with tributes from various quarters, including churches where he ministered through his music.
The late gospel star's sister, Anza Ravele, described his passing as a devastating blow to the family. "My brother was everything to us. He was the last born but unified the whole family. He has been in and out of hospital, but we had hoped he would pull through. We will miss him," she said.
His mother, Ms Meriam Tshikosi, who lived with him, said his death had left a void in her heart. "He was my pillar of strength, and I was still expecting more from him. He was the peacemaker, always ensuring that conflicts were amicably resolved and relationships restored. He cherished togetherness and unity," she said.
His close friend, Adv Rinae Tshikovha, described the late musician as someone passionate about personal growth and self-development. "He was a businessman of note. He carried no grudges, loved peace, and valued reconciliation. He achieved so much in music, and I have no other word to describe him better than a legend. He touched the lives of many, and his death is a great loss to us all," he said.
Palesa's music journey began at a very young age. After matriculating, he pursued his passion for music and also ventured into business by starting a taxi service, which he personally operated, transporting schoolchildren.
He was a product of the Rofhiwa Manyaga Gospel Star Talent Search and performed alongside many top musicians locally and nationally.
He will be remembered for powerful hits such as Murena Ipfa Thabelo Yanga, Vhuhulu Hawe, Ndi Yehova o ri Lwelaho and Ndi Yesu Fhedzi.
Palesa was buried on Saturday, 13 September, at Itsani in a funeral attended by numerous pastors and musicians from across the country.
