The death toll in the N1 North bus crash outside Louis Trichardt has risen to six after another body was discovered near the accident scene on Friday morning.
Police in Makhado, under the Vhembe District, are investigating a case of culpable homicide following the fatal crash that occurred next to Ingwe Lodge in the Tshambudzi area.
The accident occurred during the early hours of Thursday morning when a bus travelling from south to north allegedly lost control, overturned and rolled down an embankment.
Three men and one woman were declared dead at the scene. The injured were rushed to various hospitals for treatment. A fifth victim, a man, later succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
In a further development on Friday at around 09:00, the body of a 49-year-old man was discovered in bushes near the crash site. Police believe he was also a passenger on the bus.
His death brings the total number of fatalities to six: five men and one woman.
Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
Police have urged anyone with information that may assist the investigation to contact authorities.
