Mpheni Home Defenders walloped Ngwenani Young Chiefs 5-0 at the Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday to secure a place in the final of the Safa Vhembe Total Challenge KO competition.
Defenders opened their account in the 14th minute. Trust Tshidumo finished off a square pass, following entertaining moves by the midfielders. Realizing that Defenders were all over them, Young Chiefs effected two changes to their starting lineup 28 minutes into the game. They replaced Mukonazwothe Manena and Livhuwani Themeli with Thembuluwo Mbave and Rivhadali Mahada respectively. Chiefs then started to play attacking football, but it was difficult for them to find their way through the defence of Defenders.
Chiefs fought the better part of the last half with their hands tied behind their backs. This after they were reduced to 10 men in the 54th minute. Thembuluwo Mbave was given his marching orders for pulling Dakalo Nwanamidwa outside the penalty box, denying him an obvious scoring opportunity.
Ndinde Phidza was brought down within the box in the 60th minute and it was a clear penalty for Chiefs. Hulisani Magoma shot straight to the keeper. Home Defenders scored two quick goals through Dakalo Nwanamidwa in the 64th and 66th minute. Ndaedzo Mareda scored the fourth 10 minutes thereafter, while the last one came via Thabo Matumba late in the game.
