At just 17, Shibe Naho Comfort Denga is proving that dreams born in rural villages can reach the global stage. The Grade 11 learner at LTT Murunwa School of Excellence in Louis Trichardt will represent South Africa at the Miss Global Universe 2026 pageant, set to take place in Singapore and Malaysia from 7 to 12 July.
Born and raised in Hamangilasi Block E outside Vuwani, the soft-spoken teenager says she carries not only her family’s hopes but also the pride of Vhembe and the country.
“South Africa is more than my home, it is my heartbeat, my purpose and the reason I rise,” she said.
Crowned Miss SA Global Universe 2026, Denga described the opportunity as the greatest honour of her young life.
“This is a nation of resilience, ubuntu and young dreamers who refuse to be defined by their circumstances. To wear the South African flag on my chest is a privilege. I will represent our diversity, strength and unstoppable spirit with grace, and I will make my country proud by bringing the title home,” she said.
Denga began her modelling journey in 2024, while in Grade 9.
“There were moments when I wanted to give up, but I kept going. Consistency beats circumstance. Your background is not a barrier, it is your foundation,” she said.
She credits her parents as her strongest support system, alongside her best friends, Hope Denga and Venecia Denga.
“They voted for me, shared my content, encouraged me and reminded me to keep rising whenever I felt like falling.”
Despite her pageant commitments, she remains focused on her studies and hopes her journey will inspire other young girls.
“You can excel in the classroom and pursue your dreams at the same time. You are powerful, capable and your voice matters. Never let fear dim your light.”
Drawing strength from Philippians 4:13, which says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” Denga is inviting South Africans to support her journey by following her on Instagram and TikTok, @denga_shibe_naho_comfort.
