Uncertainty still exists about whether the Makhado Municipality has settled its outstanding debt with a former service provider, Landmark Security, or recovered the vehicles confiscated by the Sheriff of the Court. Both parties failed to respond to requests for comment the past week.

Last week, it was reported that a court order had been granted, allowing the sheriff to attach a TLB and two light delivery vehicles. The court order states that the amount owed to the security company totals R2,458,499.76.

Although unconfirmed, it is believed the amount claimed relates to work done by the company between 2017 and 2020. Landmark Security had submitted a bid of R15.329 million to provide security services to the municipality over a three-year period.

The director of Landmark Security, Mr Thilivhali Mahada, declined to answer questions regarding the matter, stating that he needed to consult his lawyer.

Despite several promises, the municipality's spokesperson, Mr Mpho Rathando, also failed to provide an explanation for the municipality's position. However, he reportedly responded to other media outlets, and on Saturday, Capricorn FM reported that the municipality intended to appeal the court order.

Landmark Security and Supply Services is no stranger to controversy. It is listed on the FCSA's database of defaulters for employers failing to pay provident fund contributions. As of July 2023, the list indicates that the company had not paid contributions for 42 months, suggesting it was in default while providing services to the municipality.

Last week's article stated that controversial businessman Harold Muswobi is a director of Landmark Security. However, Mr Muswobi clarified that, while he is a founding member of the company, he stepped back in 2016 and is no longer involved in the business.
