Diiteleni are the Greendot champions

Tshenzhelani Diiteleni FC were crowned the champions of the Greendot Vhako's Chalice Soccer Tournament at the Hagumbu grounds in the Niani area last Sunday.

Tshenzhelani Diiteleni FC were crowned the champions of the Greendot Vhako's Chalice Soccer Tournament at the Hagumbu grounds in the Niani area last Sunday.

Diiteleni beat Maramanzhi Home Sweepers 1-0 in the final to lift the trophy. Ampfa Siwada scored the goal that broke the hearts of Home Sweepers. Diiteleni received R3 500, a floating trophy and gold medals during a ceremony held at the grounds shortly after the final.

Their way to the final went via Maramanzhi Pull Together, whom they beat 1-0 in the semi-final. Their opening match was against Gumbu Peace Makers on Saturday. The game was not played to the finish as the referee was forced to blow the final whistle shortly after the second half started. This after a player of Peace Makers spat at the referee. The score was 1-1 at the time. Diiteleni were declared the winners and secured a place in the semis.

The runners-up, Maramanzhi Home Sweepers, received R2 000 and silver medals.

The teams that lost in the semi-finals, Tuwani Happy Brothers and Maramanzhi Pull Together, each received R1 000.

Home Sweepers beat Makavhini FC 2-1 in their quarter-final match on Saturday before overpowering Tuwani Happy Brothers 3-1 the following day.

The best player in the tournament, Murangi Masikhwa of Diiteleni, also received a trophy.

Eight teams from Masisi and the surrounding areas, Makavhini FC, Maramanzhi Home Sweepers, Maramanzhi Pull Together, Tuwani Happy Brothers, Sigonde Golden Stars, Gumbu Peace Makes, Malale FC and Tshenzhelani Diiteleni, took part in the tournament.

Two companies, Hollywood Bets and Greendot, were the main sponsors of the tournament.
