Makonde FC were unstoppable when they beat Shadani Dangerous Scorpions 2-0 in the final of the Makonde Tshedza Soccer Tournament at the Makonde Home Defenders grounds on Sunday.

As if they were not campaigning in the same league, Dangerous Scorpions were far below par when it came to ball possession and the quality of their passes.

Witness "Disco" Makungo, Makonde's killer striker, was a marvel to watch. Makungo, who scored a brace in the game, was everywhere, collecting balls from the middle of the park while at the same time playing as a full striker.

Makonde knocked on the opponents' door for the first time nine minutes into the game. Their slender striker, Ndamulelo Nemutavhanani, received a neat pass from Witness Makungo in the 25-metre area. He moved a few steps forward before trying his luck with a half volley. The ball went a little wide, much to the fans' disappointment.

Makonde did not lose hope after that as they continued to fight like a team, initiating some promising moves from behind. They finally stamped their authority on the match in the 27th minute. Witness Makungo was on target with a long-range half volley. Combrick Chauke, the Scorpions' keeper, watched helplessly as the ball hit the upright and landed across the goal line.

Scorpions suffered a big blow when Chauke sustained an injury to his back while saving what could have been Makonde's second goal moments thereafter. He was taken to hospital for medical treatment and Mushe Rambofheni took over as the new keeper.

Makonde enjoyed the 1-0 lead until proceedings for the first half came to an end. The only change Makonde effected to their starting line-up was when Wavhudi Ndou replaced Advice Munyai in the 56th minute. Witness Makungo completed his brace with a ground cutter after beating the offside trap in the dying minutes of the game.
