The Minister of Public Service and Administration, Ms Ayanda Dlodlo, officially opened the Ettian Tshabane Multi-Media Centre at Mayeke Higher Primary School in Xikundu Village a fortnight ago.
The centre, which hosts more than 20 computers for the 500-learner school, was donated by the cellular phone giant MTN in 2015 at the request of the late Minister of Public Service and Administration, Mr Collins Chabane. The centre is named after the late Minister's father, Ettian Tshabane, a staunch educator, committed public servant and one of the primary school pioneers who also served the longest as its principal.
Minister Chabane had adopted the school in 2014 and become its patron with the aim of bringing advancement to the school and its learners.
According to Dlodlo, the multi-media centre will help learners to access the information on the Internet and computer-skills development as the country is moving towards the fourth industrial revolution. "I'm so happy that MTN built this multi-media centre and it will help our learners with computer skills development and access information as information is very key and brings knowledge," she said. "This multi-media centre is the legacy of the late Collins Chabane, who was a student from this school and always wanted to develop this school as a way of giving back. I hope he is happy because we have fulfilled his wish."
She also handed over school uniforms to selected learners from disadvantaged backgrounds within the community.
The MEC for Health, Dr Phophi Ramathuba, said that she would send nurses to the school every month to educate them about teenage pregnancy and HIV/Aids. The mayor of Collins Chabane Local Municipality, Moses Maluleke, said that the multi-media centre would help in developing the community.
