Late on Saturday night (1 July), a shooting occurred at the Kwa Dollar Pub in Louis Trichardt, resulting in the death of a local business owner and injuries to five others. The deceased has been identified as 41-year-old Tshimangadzo Andries Makuya, also known as Dollar.

According to police spokesperson Lt Col Malesela Ledwaba, two armed men entered the pub, situated at the corner of Joubert and Krogh Street, and indiscriminately opened fire on the patrons. During the incident, five individuals were struck by stray bullets and sustained injuries. Makuya suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body and tragically died at the scene.

The suspects are believed to have fled in a white VW Polo and a silver-grey Mercedes-Benz with unknown registration numbers. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear at this stage, but the police have opened cases of murder and attempted murder.

The injured victims are currently receiving medical treatment in hospital, and their identities have not been disclosed to protect their status as potential witnesses.

The pub owner will be buried at Tshakhuma on Saturday, 8July; the service will start at 06:00.The memorial service will be held at Tshakhuma Dzananwa on Friday at 13:00.

In response to the incident, the provincial commissioner of the South African Police, Lt Gen Thembi Hadebe, has ordered an immediate manhunt for the suspects.
