Joe Maweja FC rose to the occasion and held the title chasers, Dolphins FC, to a goalless draw in their ABC Motsepe League match at the Tshifulanani Stadium on Saturday .
Khumbudzo Muvhango, the Maweja playmaker, did not lose his original fighting spirit, despite the fact that he was warned with a card in the opening minutes of the game. Muvhango tackled Aubrey Kekana of Dolphins from behind in the 14th minute.
Walter Netshimbulu, Maweja's leading goal scorer, could not live up to the fans' expectations as he was tightly marked. Realizing that it was difficult for them to find their way through the defence of Dolphins, the midfielders of Maweja, Takalani "Sticker" Ramagalela and Khumbudzo Muvhango, tried their luck by shooting from a distance.
The Dolphins came close to scoring in the 39th minute. This after their dribbling wizard, David Nkoana, went loose from the right corner and unleashed a half volley from the edge of the box. The ball hit the side.
Maweja introduced Laymond Muleya for Takalani Ramagalela two minutes into the last half. Muleya combined well with Khumbudzo Muvhango and Walter Netshimbulu on the attack. Although there were some heavy showers in the area for the better part of the second half, the referee turned a deaf ear to the calls by the clubs' officials to stop the game.
