Beware of scams where individuals request payment to secure a job, cautioned the Department of Correctional Services (DCS). This warning comes in response to several reports of recruitment scams falsely using the name of the Thohoyandou Correctional Service.
According to a press release issued by the DCS, incidents have been reported where people are soliciting payments of R7,500 for jobs at the prison. Ms Rachel Kutama, the acting Area Commissioner of Thohoyandou Management Area, urged the public not to fall victim to such scams. "Members of the public are warned against paying for government jobs, as this is unlawful and will never be a prerequisite for employment in the government. DCS does not require money for any form of employment and does not advertise jobs on social media," she said.
Kutama added that employment opportunities are advertised on the websites www.dpsa.gov.za and www.dcs.gov.za. She stated that: "In most cases, job seekers will be asked to submit Z83 forms with supporting documents to a specific address. DCS officials assisting with the submission process should not request money or anything else but guide applicants on where to submit and sign the submission register."
Members of the public are urged to report any individuals posing as DCS officials to the nearest DCS/SAPS offices. To inquire about the legitimacy of a posted job, the public should call any nearby DCS office or 0860 000 327 or email questions to enquiry.complaints@dcs.gov.za."
