While teams affiliated to the other leagues are only worried about the congestion of league matches that they are likely to face after the lockdown, the affiliates for the Thulamela Local Football Association (Thulfa) are singing a different tune.
According to the chairman of the association, Mr Ephraim "Makhanda" Singo, the teams should have played their last first-round league matches over the past weekend.
Singo further said that this weekend had been set aside for the opening matches of the MTG/PIB KO competition. With the lockdown in place, he was not sure whether it would still be possible for them to have the final for the MTG/PIB KO competition played on 16 June as scheduled.
What makes Mr Singo spend sleepless nights is fear of the unknown. The former professional football referee said that he did not sleep when he considered that no clarity existed whether the lockdown would be extended after next Thursday, 16 April.
Singo stated that it would still be possible for them to stage the final of the competition on 16 June as scheduled, should the lockdown be called off next Thursday.
According to Singo, they will negotiate with the sponsors to have the final played later in case they fail to meet the scheduled date of 16 June.
Asked about the programme for this year's Thulamela Mayoral Cup, Singo said that it would not be possible for them to stage the competition this year, because of the time already lost as a result of the national lockdown. He described their failure to stage the Mayoral Cup as a big blow to the teams, saying the tournament was one of the big competitions in the region in terms of the sponsorship amount.
He also said that the Mpho Mathoho Electrical KO competition would still be staged as scheduled. The competition will be played at the end of the programme.
