The police in Vhembe have opened two inquest dockets after the bodies of two teenage friends were found hanging in separate incidents in Lwamondo on consecutive days.

The first case was reported on Saturday, 13 September, when 14-year-old Bonhle Faith Maguwada of Lwamondo Khumbe was found hanging from the roof of her home at about 9:00. According to information supplied to the police, she had left home the previous day and only returned that morning. Her mother reportedly questioned her about not coming home the night before. She was later discovered hanging inside the house.

On Sunday, 14 September, at around 11:00, 13-year-old Neo Ramulayi of Lwamondo Tshifulanani was also found dead after hanging herself with her tunic belt.

Vhembe SAPS spokesperson W/O Vuledzani Dathi confirmed both incidents.

"The 14-year-old [allegedly] committed suicide after her mother had reprimanded her for not coming home the previous day. The following day, the friend Neo Ramulayi complained that her friend was found dead the previous day and it was not sitting well with her. She was later found dead in the house. Investigations are ongoing," he said.
