Thohoyandou police have opened a murder case following the death of a 27-year-old man who was allegedly assaulted by community members after being found inside a house in Dovheni village.
The deceased has been identified as Risuna Chauke of Khakhanwa village. The incident occurred on Sunday, 26 July.
Police were called to an alleged mob justice incident in Dovheni village. On arrival, officers found Chauke lying on the ground with a head injury and bleeding. Preliminary investigations indicate that he was allegedly assaulted by community members after he was found breaking into a house.
Vhembe police spokesperson Captain Vuledzani Dathi said the homeowner had opened a case of housebreaking with intent unknown at the Thohoyandou police station. Chauke was taken to hospital under police guard, where he later died from his injuries.
