Dovho Bornfree FC were crowned the champions of the Mpho Mathoho Electrical KO Competition at the Malale Grounds in the Niani area last Saturday. Bornfree beat Manenzhe Liverpool 2-1 in the final to lift the trophy.
A total of 36 teams affiliated with the Musina Local Football Association took part in the knock-out competition.
Bornfree's way to the final went via Lwathudwa Black Movers, whom they beat 4-1 in their semi-final game that was played at the same venue earlier that day.
Bornfree were presented with R4,500, a floating trophy, gold medals, a soccer kit and a soccer ball during a ceremony held at the grounds after the game.
Manenzhe Liverpool beat Domboni Sunshine 4-1 in their semi-final game to secure a place in the final. Liverpool went home with R3,500, silver medals, a soccer kit and a soccer ball.
Teams booted out of the tournament in the semi-final round, Domboni Sunshine and Lwathudwa Black Movers, were each given R2,000, a soccer kit and a soccer ball.
During the ceremony, the deputy president of Safa Vhembe, Mr Colbert Nempumbuluni, said that his association was proud to be associated with businesspeople such as Mr Mpho Mathoho. He praised Mr Mathoho for his decision to sponsor the local football association while all his businesses were operating in Gauteng Province.
