It was a weekend of mixed fortunes for Tshakhuma RO United. They played to a 1-1 draw with Shayandima Power Stars in their MMK Administrators League match at the Shayandima School grounds on Saturday, but they then beat the title chasers, Univen FC, 1-0 at the Tshakhuma Malaria grounds the following day.
Sunday's game was a see-saw battle, with both sides creating several scoring chances. United's Ndivhuwo "Rooney" Makhado did not lose focus, despite the fact that he was cautioned with a card for ignoring the referee's whistle in the 14th minute.
The students came close to scoring in the 24th minute. Their fast forward, Lawrence Chauke, went loose from the right corner and shot wide from the edge of the box with United's keeper, Khuthadzo Mukomafhedzi, already beaten.
Another United player, Khathutshelo Matodzi, was booked in the 28th minute. He was engaged in a prolonged argument with the referee, until the whistleman decided to silence him by flashing a yellow card. United replaced Ntanganedzeni Mudau with Rendani Mukomafhedzi three minutes into the last half.
Univen effected three changes later in the game. United were awarded a penalty in the 74th minute. This after a defender of Univen handled the ball within his own danger area. Khathutshelo Matodzi made no mistake from the white spot. United later introduced Lufuno Mugodi for Khuliso Rambau, nine minutes before the final whistle. That did not change the complexion of the game.
