The stage was set for an exhilarating cinematic night as Dreamers House Studios, a student-led non-profit organisation from the University of Venda (Univen), launched their first two films, titled "Sebata" and "Years in Minutes," in the form of an outdoor movie show on Saturday, 19 August.
The event drew more than 300 attendees who gathered beneath the starry sky, where a "bioscope" was set up at the university. Collaborating with Univen Student Housing and Limpopo Home Cinema, Dreamers House Studios illuminated the stage with their pioneering efforts. This memorable evening marked the culmination of their film and television training project, which began in January and reached its peak in mid-August.
The objective was both simple and profound: to introduce the captivating world of filmmaking to the university community, nurture skills development, and provide entertainment for the students.
Austine Mashego, the producer of Dreamers House Studios, described the atmosphere during Saturday night's show as priceless. "Experiencing modern cinematic films on a big screen, in our own language and with familiar faces, was truly amazing. The event drew in many content creators, and people couldn't get enough of it. We're now witnessing more interest from individuals who want to be part of this journey, contributing as scriptwriters, camera operators, and more," he remarked.
Mashego has invited students, especially those in media studies, to join this creative voyage and experience the enchantment of filmmaking first-hand.
Neo Ntabane, a member of the student representative council, described the event as a very powerful one. "I usually don't attend movie nights, but I found myself at the cafeteria until midnight," he said.
