A 12-year-old boy from Tshiseluselu village took the members of the Sabbatan Church completely by surprise during the church service last Saturday afternoon (11 March) with his exceptional percussion prowess.

Aluwani Netshianane, a Grade 7 learner at Damani Primary School, had his peers turning green with envy every time he started drumming away, leaving the congregation stunned with admiration.

Limpopo Mirror's correspondent had a quick chat with Aluwani after the church service and asked him whether he considered becoming a musician one day. But the boy said he only played the drums for fun and to praise the Lord. "I just play in church for the love of God. I don't see myself becoming a musician. I see a lot of musicians on TV, and I don't think they are Christians by the way they dance. My parents always encourage me to love and serve the Lord." All he wants, he said, is to become educated and get a decent job.

When asked if he was not even interested in becoming a gospel artist in future, he said he would love to do that, though he was adamant that he would then only be performing for Christians during church services. "I don't want to mix with people who drink alcohol and use vulgar words on stage," he said.
