After a three-year break from the music scene, Tshivenda traditional and manyalo music maestro Rudzani Nenzhelele, better known as Dube, is back with a bang. The 43-year-old musician from Muswodi Tshisimani stepped away from recording in 2022 because of financial challenges, but he never stopped composing new music.
Once his finances improved, Dube headed straight to the studio, recording his highly anticipated third album, Mudzimu Wanga. Released on Friday, 7 November, the six-track album was recorded at Matsheks Studio at Mukovha Wa Bale and is already creating a buzz. The album blends his smooth vocals with infectious beats, creating a dance-ready collection that fans are sure to enjoy.
"I've been inundated with calls from fans eager for a new release," Dube said. "I couldn't share what I was going through — producing music is expensive, and chances of turning a profit are slim. I had materials ready, but no funds to bring them to life. This nearly broke my heart."
Now back in full force, Dube is determined to reclaim his spot in the music industry. "This album represents three years of sweat and dedication. Fans are impressed, and I still have so much more to offer," he said.
Dube's music journey began at age six, singing at home despite his mother's complaints and performing at school assemblies. His professional breakthrough came with his debut album Thambulo in 2010, followed by Mushumi wa Vhusiku in 2022.
Describing his music as prophetic and deeply connected to the inner self, Dube said Mudzimu Wanga reflected his journey and personal growth. "I am planning to make the album available online soon," he added.
