The visiting side approached the game in a rough manner but the referee, Mr Enock Radebe, calmed down the situation by flashing a number of yellow cards in the early hours. Kamaal Sait, the Santos midfielder, was the first to go into the referee's book.
He tackled Kenneth Motshumi of Dynamos from behind. The Santos defence was stabilised by their bulldozer sweeper, John Mbizo, who denied Dynamos a number of certain goals through his sweeping experience.
The second half saw the Giyani outfit introducing Joel Seroba for Nicholas Mkhabela. Dynamos came close to scoring when Joel Seroba faced the Santos keeper and shot wide, instead of chipping the ball and trying other possible ways. Duran Francis of Santos was cautioned with a card for the intentional handling of the ball.
The team from the mother city replaced Fees Moloi with Peter Kirsten in the 70th minute. They were reduced to ten men three minutes thereafter, when Duran Francis saw red for a second bookable infringement. The complexion of the game did not change, even after Dynamos' introduction of Josan Ndou for Sydney Mushikaro.
Santos were unfortunate to see a promising move turn into a nightmare when Gerald Raphahlele intercepted it. Raphahlele was later warned with a card for tackling Kamaal Sait the rough way. As if they had won the match, Santos were celebrating after the final whistle.
