Dynamos look set to become league champions

GIYANI – Dynamos will have committed an unforgettable blunder if they fail to take the league title to the Lowveld at the end of the season. To prove that the residents of Giyani are eagerly waiting to see their team gaining promotion to the elite league, it was celebration time for them after the Dynamos 1-0 victory over Pietersburg City Pillars at Giyani Stadium on Sunday.

Although they are currently leading the pack by five points, ahead of the second placed Bloemfontein Celtic, their position is not guaranteed. Dynamos have 51 points gained from 23 matches. Celtic have played the same number of matches.

Dynamos and Bloemfontein Celtic still have seven matches each to wrap up their league programmes. Highlandspark Silver Stars have an outside chance of winning the league title. They have 42 points in hand. Their advantage is that they have played two matches fewer than the top two teams.

Their outstanding matches are against Alexandra United and Dobsonville All Nations.

Mabopane Young Masters are lying on fourth place. They have two points fewer than Highlandspark Silver Stars. Pietersburg City Pillars, who nearly caused an upset when they escaped with a 0-1 defeat at the hands of Dynamos last Sunday, are now out of the race.

They are tied with Bloemfontein Young Tigers, Thembisa City Sharks and Welkom Stars with 38 points each. The struggle for survival is among five teams, Mamelodi Juventus, Alexandra United, Katlehong City, Sporting and Witbank Black Aces.
