The semifinal matches of the MTG Soccer Challenge were played at the Makonde Home Defenders grounds over the past weekend.

The semifinal matches of the MTG Soccer Challenge were played at the Makonde Home Defenders grounds over the past weekend.

In the first match, Shadani Dangerous Scorpions beat Mudaswali United Brothers 6-5. The winner was determined through penalty shoot-out as no goal was scored in the regulation time. In the second match, Makonde FC beat Makonde Youth Development 1-0 to secure a place in the final.

Eight teams from Makonde and Khubvi paticipated in the tournament. The other four teams were Makonde Home Defenders, Tshilulu Young Tigers, Tshilulu FC and Tswera Young Masters.

According to one of the organisers of the tournament, Mr Madambini Maswime, the champions of the tournament will become R2 500 richer and they will also receive a soccer kit. Cash amounting to R1 800 and soccer kit are awaiting the team that will finish in second place. The third- and fourth-placed teams will take home R800 and R500 respectively. Teams that were booted out of the competition in the quarterfinal stage will each receive a consolation prize of R100.

The results for the quarterfinal matches are: Shadani Dangerous Scorpions 5, Tshilulu Young Tigers 4; Mudaswali United Brothers 3, Makonde Home Defenders 1; Makonde Youth Development 1, Tswera Young Masters 1 and Makonde FC 3, Tshilulu FC 1.

The final will be staged at the Makonde Home Defenders grounds on Thursday, 16 June.
