Ele Mathobo reflects on collaboration with Kwesta

Limpopo artist Ele Mathobo celebrates a milestone collaboration with Kwesta on a new track exploring love's complexities. This partnership, following her introspective EP "My House," further showcases her cultural roots and commitment to uplifting other Limpopo artists.

Limpopo-born artist Ele Mathobo says her recent collaboration with South African rapper Kwesta marks an important milestone in her growing music career.

The song began when Mathobo developed a melody idea and shared it with producer Crosswavee. As the track took shape during studio sessions, the team identified Kwesta as the ideal artist to complete the song. After discussions about the concept and direction of the music, the rapper agreed to join the project and later recorded his contribution.

The track explores the complexity of love and relationships, reflecting both the positive and challenging aspects of human connections. The theme moves beyond a typical romantic narrative, highlighting that love can endure even through moments of conflict and emotional tension.

The collaboration aligns with the themes explored in Mathobo’s recent EP My House, a project that blends Afro-house rhythms with personal storytelling. The EP reflects different stages of life, combining celebration, reflection and resilience while remaining musically uplifting.

Mathobo, who grew up in Makwarela in the Venda region, says her cultural background remains central to her artistic identity. Language and cultural expression play a significant role in shaping her sound.

Beyond her own career, Mathobo hopes to create opportunities for artists from Limpopo through collaboration, mentorship and creative platforms. She is currently preparing new performances and visual releases as she continues to expand her presence in the South African music industry.
