Four unknown men robbed the Furnmart shop at Elim Hubyeni Shopping Complex at approximately 18:30 on Friday, 31 May. The thieves made off with an undisclosed amount of cash, several mobile phones, and laptops.
Reports indicate that the suspects were wandering around the shopping complex for several minutes before storming into the shop. A customer, who wished to remain anonymous, said the robbers first turned off the radio playing at the shop entrance and then pointed a gun at the manager, ordering him to lie down.
The customer said that the robbery happened while they were preparing to leave the centre. They heard some workers screaming as they were also robbed of their mobile phones.
"Since it was the end of the month, many customers were still present. Fortunately, no one was harmed as the robbers stole and then escaped in a white Ford Ranger. However, we no longer feel safe, especially since thieves also stole mobile phones from another store at the shopping complex last year," said the witness.
Vhembe SAPS Spokesperson W/O Vuledzani Dathi confirmed the incident. "The police were called to the scene and found that mobile phones, laptops, and an undisclosed amount of money were stolen. No arrests have been made yet, and the police investigation continues," said Dathi.
Any information that could assist the police in apprehending the suspects can be shared with the investigating officer, Capt Mabunda, at 082-5657901.
