The match started at a fast pace, with both sides throwing caution to the wind with their fiery play. The Limpopo lads timed their passes to perfection, but lacked power and experience. The strong defender of Bafana Bafana, Matthews Booth, proved to be a force to be reckoned with and he marshalled the defence very well.
The Bafana Bafana's left flank, Benedick Vilakazi, received a beautiful pass in the 17th minute. Instead of keeping the ball and trying other possible ways of scoring, Vilakazi's shot went astray.
Two minutes later, Magic Ratshivhadelo received a golden opportunity and disappointed everyone when he shot straight at the stranded goalkeeper. The Limpopo lads showed a spirit of commitment. Their original stamina soon vanished and their back-line started to leak. Bafana Bafana capitalised on slack defence, and scored their opening goal in the 42nd minute, when Booth hit the net after an excellent corner kick by Clement Mazibuko.
In the second half, Booth handled the ball inside his penalty area and the referee did not hesitate to point to the white spot. Thokozani Mnguni failed to convert and shot straight at the Bafana Bafana goalkeeper, Calvin Marlin.
Soon thereafter, one of the local team's kingpins, Magic Ratshivhadelo, received his marching orders for a second booking.
The other players who were cautioned with cards were Jabu Pule, Tony Coyle and Matthews Booth. Both sides effected some changes in the second half. Limpopo introduced Mulondo Sikhiwivhilo, Chris Netshidzivhe, Danny Palmer, Gerald Mtshali, Abednigo Netshedwe and Nathaniel Maise. Bafana Bafana called on Steve Lekolea, Jimmy Khauleza, Stanton Federicks, Hilton Jordan, André Arendse and Lebalang Mabalane.
While Bafana Bafana continued to put pressure on the back-line of Limpopo, Jimmy Khauleza added another tick in the 83rd minute.
After the second goal, the Bafana Bafana coach, Mr Jomo Sono, told his players to show their skills. Pule, Mabalane and Khauleza started to dish the ball and entertained the spectators.
