The opening matches of the King Abraham Pre-Season KO competition were played at the Sambandou grounds over the past weekend.
Thirty teams from all over Vhembe District are participating in the tournament. The champions will receive R8 000 and a floating trophy, while the runners-up will receive R4 000.
The teams booted out of the tournament in the semi-final stage will each receive R2 000, while the losing teams in the quarterfinal stage will each receive R600. The best player in the tournament, the best goalkeeper, the best coach and the top goal scorer will also be rewarded at the end of the tournament.
Tomorrow's fixtures are: Shadani Dangerous Scorpions vs Makonde United, Mavunde Hungry Vultures vs Ngovhela XI Experience and Tshilavulu Elite vs Dipeni FC. Sunday's fixtures are: Tshanzhe Pre-Mighty vs Mudaswali United Brothers, Bashasha Masters vs Tshatshingo Potholes, Lukau Hot Aces vs Rambuda Young Fighters and Gondeni Big Cat vs Thenzheni Liverpool.
Madridtas FC and Dipeni FC are the two favourites to win the tournament. Madridtas crushed Matangari Uprising Stars 5-1 last Sunday to secure a place in the last-16 stage.
