A suspect, Ndivhudza Ramabaka, appeared in the Vuwani Magistrate's court on 1 August in connection with the vicious killing of the 29-year-old Tshililo Tiny Musundwa.
In court the Rinae Sengani Foundation, together with Munna Ndi Nnyi, the Vhembe Pastors' Forum and the Tsianda community, handed a petition to the magistrate requesting that bail be denied to the accused. "We do not want to see him in our communities from now until the day of his sentence," reads the petition. "In our view, he is a danger to the entire community in and around Tsianda."
Ramabaka was finally denied bail.
It is alleged that the accused had arrived at the deceased's home at around 19:00 on the day of the murder and found that she was not home. He returned at about 20:00, when he found her and started an argument. He wanted to know why she had not been around when he had first arrived.
"He smashed her head against the concrete floor until she was unconscious," said the deceased's sister, Ms Emma Mbewe. "As a family, we are hurting. Tiny left two sons behind, who are eight and four years old. The kids are now going to grow up without a mother because a boyfriend decided to take her life."
The Vhembe Pastors' Forum representative, Dr Dean Randitsheni, said the forum was totally against killings and that they would support the family in court and make sure the accused got a heavy sentence.
The accused is due to appear in court again on 31 August.
