Fans’ cries bring Junior Sikheli back as Tshiphaswi signals powerful rebirth

Traditional African musician Junior Sikheli has released a five-track EP, "Tshiphaswi" (Rebirth), after a three-year hiatus, answering persistent calls from his devoted fans.

After three years of silence, the unmistakable voice of traditional African musician Junior Sikheli is echoing once again, answering the calls of loyal fans who refused to let him disappear from the music scene.

The acclaimed artist, whose real name is Mudodzwa Josef Nengudza, has returned with a five-track EP, Tshiphaswi (Rebirth), which he describes as the beginning of a new chapter.

His last release was in 2023, but Sikheli said the constant pleas from supporters for new music never stopped.

“The cries from my fans never gave me peace. They kept asking when I was coming back, and that is what eventually pushed me back into the studio,” he said.

The EP features Thovhele O Vhuya, Inwi ni Nnyi?, Miloro (Instrumental) and South Africa (Motherland). The deeply personal Miloro highlights the importance of dreams, which Sikheli says have guided him throughout his life.

“I am where I am because of the visions shown to me by the Almighty since I was born. They continue to direct my daily life,” he said.

In Inwi ni Nnyi?, he challenges people to stop judging others for their beliefs and traditions, while Thovhele O Vhuya celebrates his long-awaited return to music. The patriotic South Africa (Motherland) encourages citizens to protect the country and celebrate its diversity.

The song features Robert T, who performs in English, and Bilo, who contributes a Setswana verse, reflecting South Africa's rich multicultural identity.

Sikheli revealed that preparations were already under way for a promotional tour, with several live performances confirmed as he reconnects with audiences across the country.

With Tshiphaswi, Junior Sikheli has not simply returned to music; he has marked the start of a new chapter rooted in timeless African values, powerful storytelling and cultural pride.
