The Tshenuwani Farisani Foundation was launched at Tshikombani Stadium a fortnight ago with the aim to develop young people scholastically.
According to Farisani, the foundation focuses on education, economics, farming, agriculture and technology and information.
Poor learners from the remote rural villages area will now be able to further their studies without financial stumbling blocks as the foundation will start awarding bursaries to indigent learners. The bursaries will cater for primary school pupils and high school learners, and they will also be extended to university students, when the funds are available.
"We felt there was a need to start a fund that will assist indigent learners to further their education. This community is feeling the heavy burden of poverty, unemployment and illiteracy. Apart from assisting the rural villages, the foundation will also extend its services to the whole of the Vhembe area as soon as we raise enough funds," he added.
He added that they wanted to encourage the youth to study further. "Education is the only key for prosperity and we need to strive hard to educate our nation." According to him, in education "we will be developing governance, classroom practice and the provision of resources". In farming and agriculture, the foundation will organise seminars, provide support for community-based activities, do mentorship programmes and will also provide a special focus on women and the youth, he added.
