Five people die in horrific accident

Five people died and 15 were injured when a bus overturned on the N1 in Limpopo, sparking calls for increased road safety. This tragic incident, involving multiple vehicles, marks the third major accident in the region within ten days.

Five people were killed and 15 injured when a bus overturned on the N1 outside Louis Trichardt on Friday, 28 November. The crash involved two trucks, a sedan, a bakkie, and a 22-seater mini bus, and led to several hours of road closure as emergency teams rescued trapped passengers. This is the third major accident in Limpopo in less than 10 days.

Limpopo Transport and Community Safety MEC Violet Mathye expressed concern over the carnage and urged motorists, particularly public transport operators, to drive cautiously and reduce speed. She said a detailed report would be released once investigations were complete, and she sent her condolences to the families of the deceased.

The victims have been identified as Avhafarei Marriam Ramunenyiwa, Mufuniwa Oratile Mashinya, Mulalo Eric Maisha, Adivhaho Knowledge Matidze, and Dikgetho Cliniton Moima.

Lutendo Machochi, chairperson of the Polokwane Sibasa Taxi Association, described the deaths as painful for the families and the taxi community. He added that the association would visit the families from Wednesday, 3 December, to assist with funeral arrangements, and he extended his prayers to those still recovering in hospital.
