Nwagladsy Ministries, which has been donating food parcels to the poor and needy people of Matsila village and surrounding areas, has urged other churches and businesspeople to help during the lockdown period.

The plea was made during an event where the food was delivered at the Matsila royal house last Saturday.

Chief Livhuwani Matsila, who is faced with a daily influx of needy people coming for assistance to the royal palace during the lockdown, is always trying to find ways to help the poor and needy in his village. He approached many donors and the church from Malamulele came to help poor and needy people.

Matsila said that the leadership were doing all they could to make life better for his subjects. He expressed appreciation for the generosity of the donors.

"As traditional leaders we have to take care of the poor," he added. "We have big challenges of unemployment and poverty in our community. Those who are blessed should share their blessings with the less fortunate," he said.

The representative of Nwagladsy Ministries, Ms Faith Chauke, said that they started with the project shortly after the beginning of the lockdown by consulting the chiefs in different areas around the Vhembe region and have so far assisted more than 200 families. "We work together with the community and traditional leaders, who identify the needy and help where possible. Our other wish is to start a self-sustaining project in the village, so that the residents can sustain themselves," she said.
