Four teams will participate in the PTV Muambi Soccer Challenge at Mashau on Sunday. The challenge is sponsored to the tune of more than R50 000.
The manager of PTV Muambi Trading and Projects, Mr Nicolus Muambi, said that his company was happy to be able to contribute towards the development of sport in the rural areas. "This is part of our company's mission of giving something back to the community. We hope other companies will learn that it is important to reward members of the community because they are the ones who made us what we are," he said.
The organiser of Mashau Sports Development, Mr Thomas Ndou, stated that it was important to identify young stars' talent at grassroots level. He applauded the sponsors for helping to identify the talent of the region's youth and added that the youth of this region should be proud of their talent.
Mashau Thondoni will play against Guvhungwa Young Fighters at 10:00, while Mpheni Home Defenders will meet Bafana FC at 12:00.
A curtain raiser between Phala Phala FM and Mashau Masters will take place at 14:00 and the winners of the first two matches will face each other in the final match, which will be played at 16:00.
The winners will go home with R1 500, a new soccer kit, gold medals and a floating trophy and the runners-up will receive R1 000 and a new soccer kit and silver medals. The two who lost in the first round will receive R600 each.
