MATHE - The police are looking for four men who allegedly gang-raped a 17-year-old and a 19-year girl in two separate incidents at Mathe over the weekend.

The police liaison officer, Insp. Phillip Morolo, reports that the two were allegedly molested at Mathe on Saturday and Sunday night. The 19-year-old girl was confronted by three unknown men while walking on Saturday at about 20:00. The three ordered her to have intercourse with them at a remote spot in outskirts of the area.

One was armed with a fire-arm, while the rest threatened her knives. She later underwent a three hour ordeal while the three men took turns in molesting her sexually.

Investigations are continuing and the police are again requesting members of the public to assist them in bringing the suspects to book.

In the other incident, men cornered a 17-year-old girl near Mathe. The suspects, who are residents of Moila, according to the police, allegedly dragged the victim to the bushes next to residential area. They then took turns at having intercourse with her.

By the time of going to press, the police were still investigating the case, but according to a spokesperson, they are expecting to arrest the suspects soon.

Insp. Morolo issued a strong warning to women to avoid going out on their own after dark. He said they risked being molested by criminal elements that are always on the lookout for defenceless and innocent women.
