On 10 September, Agora Club Amarula and the team from SpecSavers Louis Trichardt visited Mara Combined School as part of an ongoing outreach programme, in conjunction with Eyes for the World.
The whole school of 80 learners was tested and three pupils required specialized spectacles. Thanks to SpecSavers Louis Trichardt, all three received their brand new spectacles.
"What joy this has brought to the learners, their families and, of course, their teachers. For Nathaniël Oosthuizen, Tylon Buys and Verinique Buys, having glasses has made a huge difference in their school work, with up to 100% improvement in their grades. What a change in these learners' self-esteem and confidence! They participate in class activities and are so excited when they can see and do things that they could not see or do before because of their poor eyesight," said the school. The school added that the learners took good care of their spectacles and wore them with pride.
In turn, Agora Club Amarula and the SpecSavers team thanked Mrs Nellie Tlakula from the Limpopo Department of Education, the principal and educators of Mara Combined School for ensuring that they were well received and for helping with the smooth facilitating of this wonderful project. "As the internal convenor for the Agora International Club's Eyes for the World Project, I am so very proud of the work Agora Cub Amarula has done and the way in which they run this project with such passion and commitment," said Ms Sandy van Niekerk, past president of Agora International.
