This was announced by the MEC for Local Government and Housing, Mr Joe Maswanganyi. He delivered the keynote address during the handing-over ceremony of donations by Black Leopards to charity organisations. The event took place at the Thohoyandou Indoor Sports Centre last Friday evening.
Maswanganyi stated that the government has renovated the Thohoyandou Stadium, Giyani Stadium and Peter Mokaba Stadium, so that they will meet international standards. According to him, this was influenced by the fact that they do not want to see local PSL teams travelling to other provinces to play their home matches as a result of a lack of facilities in their own province.
A representative from the Premier Soccer League, Mr Leepile Taunyane, said that the Premier Soccer League is committed to assisting the government in its endeavour to provide for the needy. According to him the money that his organisation collects during the annual Telkom Charity Spectacular goes to charity organisations.
Four charity organisations were each given a cheque to the tune of R10 000 during Friday's ceremony. The charity organisations that received a financial boost during the ceremony are Thusanani Christian Centre for Disabled People, Swisasekile swa Vatsoniwa Charity Organisation, Riakona Community-based Rehabilitation Program and Limpopo Blind Workers.
