Family and friends experienced a lot of emotions when Granny Munzhedzi Tambani (102) was laid to rest in the Shayandima Cemetery on Wednesday, 3 August. Tambani died at her home on Thursday, 28 July, after a long illness.
Hundreds of mourners from different parts of Limpopo attended the funeral to pay their last respects. The funeral service was characterised by the beating of drums, in line with the Zionist beliefs, and the white and blue regalia of the New Apostolic Church of Africa's Shayandima branch, where she was a senior member.
Tambani will be remembered by all as a woman of humour, respectful of others, friendly, humble and a dedicated community builder. Bishop Alpheus Kwinda urged members to emulate the good example set by Tambani. "We worked together for a long time, and I can testify that Tambani was a selfless and trusted senior member of the church, who worked tirelessly for God. She was a disciplined member who spoke her mind when things were not going well in the church. She was a highly influential person in the area, with a vision to complete the house of God. I urge all of you, especially the children, to complete the project in order for her soul to rest in peace," he said.
Shayandima Civic member Mr Azwihangwisi Netshikulwe said that Granny Tambani had done many things for her community, including helping poor people and assisting learners at different schools. "We will remember her and the significant role she played in our lives," he said.
