Although granny Rosemary Tshinakaho Mulaudzi (64) enjoys taking care of her grandchildren, her greatest love and solace will always be behind the microphone. Mulaudzi is the eldest and one of the longest-serving presenters at the border town community radio station, Musina FM, presenting the Children's Corner programme, aired every Saturday between 11:00 and 13:00.
Having joined the community radio station in 2013, Mulaudzi has gained a wealth of experience in this field. She is always readily available to substitute for other presenters in programmes such as A re aganeng, Rhumba Beats and The Night Breeze.
Mulaudzi, who is a well-known poet in Musina, said she loved radio whole-heartedly, although her breakthrough had come at an advanced age. "I always had a dream of finding myself behind the microphone, and I am happy that my dream has finally come true. Being on radio means that I can easily interact with thousands of people, something that I could not have achieved on my own. I thank Musina FM for giving me this lifetime opportunity to realise my potential," she said.
Though she had no previous training in radio, Mulaudzi is a skilled presenter today who is loved by both young and old around Musina. She said that her age had nothing to do with her success. "I want to encourage other senior citizens not to give up on their dreams. Your lifetime opportunity can come later in your life, and you must grasp it with both hands. As a person who loves learning, I am very close to the young presenters because they are very good in technology. I don't ignore their advice because I know that I learn from it. They come to me in turn for advice on topics such as our culture and traditions. We learn from each other every day."
Musina FM's station manager, Mr Justice Langa, said the radio station was blessed to have an elder such as Mulaudzi. He added that Mulaudzi was their pillar of strength and she was always available whenever her services were needed. "We are all young in the radio station. She is the only elder and often guides us on many things. Her presence here at Musina FM is a blessing. Her contributions are of major importance to all of us."
