The newly elected mayor of Thulamela Local Municipality (TLM) in Thohoyandou, Cllr Avhashoni Tshifhango, said that he believed that team work and maintaining a mutual respect would steer the municipality higher and higher.
He and the rest of the council were inaugurated at the Thohoyandou Indoor Sports Centre on Friday. Thohoyandou senior magistrate Mr Luckson Ramavhale swore in the 81 councillors.
"We must show our community that it is possible to maintain mutual respect and an attitude of teamwork that, at the end of the day, focuses on moving our municipality forward. We call upon our residents to maintain the growth of the economy, our community planning, the promotion of well-being and quality life of our residents," Tshifhango said.
He also urged communities in Thulamela to join him and his councillors to continue embracing their vision, that TLM attain city status by 2030.
Tshifhango also thanked the outgoing mayor, Grace Mahosi, and her team for good work done and has promised to follow in her steps to fast-track services delivery to the communities they will be serving. He also made a special appeal to young people that the council will need their energy, their dreams and their creativity to continue building the municipality to new and greater heights.
The leader of the Economic Freedom Fighters in the TLM, Cllr Tshililo Netshisaulu, promised to work well with the newly inaugurated councillors. "We were elected to be the eye of the communities and we promise that we will do all we can to make communities get better services. We want to improve the services delivered to our communities as a priority," said Netshisaulu.
