The heavy rains that hit the Musina area last Wednesday morning left many residents stranded at home, mopping up their houses.
The rain caused huge damage in the lower levels of numerous buildings in the town, including the municipal library.
When Limpopo Mirror visited the area, many villagers were still drying out mattresses, blankets, clothes and furniture. According to Mr Samuel Sithole of Longhomes Extension 1, where a wall was severely damaged and fell over, the downpours left everyone taking cover.
"All my furniture, blankets and groceries were damaged and I do not have money to replace or repair them," he added. "I did not sustain any major injuries, but I am extremely shocked."
Sithole said that the municipality agreed that the floods were caused by the failure of the drainage system in town. He demanded that the municipality must compensate him as he lost money due to the fact that the drainage system in town is not functioning well.
"I didn't go to work because the entrance at my gate was swept away. The water caused erosion and must be filled up again," he added.
The communication manager of the municipality, Mr Wilson Dzebu, admitted that the flooding of the buildings was caused by a drainage system that couldn't absorb the sudden downpour. He said the municipal workers were busy working to fix the drainage to avoid further damage.
