Huge cash injection for MLFA teams

Cash prizes amounting to R264 000 were distributed among the clubs affiliated to the Makhado Local Football Association (MLFA) last season during a ceremony that was held at the Makhado Municipal Lapa on Saturday.

Cash prizes amounting to R264 000 were distributed among the clubs affiliated to the Makhado Local Football Association (MLFA) last season during a ceremony that was held at the Makhado Municipal Lapa on Saturday.

The chairperson of the MLFA, Mr Joseph Maphaha, appealed to businesspeople to get involved in promoting local activities. He added that his league had been operating many years without a sponsorship. He emphasised during the ceremony the importance of education and said that sportspeople must not neglect their studies. "You can be a star today and be written off the following day. Education will never forsake you, and you can bank on it," he added.

A member of parliment, Mr Moses Tseli, praised the sponsors and added that he was very proud "that we have grown young people of real quality." He stated that he was convinced that the league would produce stars who would receive international recognition soon.

Tseli further said that the government appreciated the selfless contribution of Limpopo Dairy and others, who were all at the forefront of developing the local youth. "Despite the difficult economic conditions, we still find companies that are prepared to share their takings and support us."

The log leader of each stream went home with R4 600 and a floating trophy. Gogobole Bucs, Muraida Youth Development, Matanda Seven Stars, Mbhokota FC, Sangoma Black Robbers and Manavhela Black Aces were also promoted to the Safa Vhembe MMK league.
